Richard M. Stewart

February 21, 1958 - February 26, 2022

Richard M. Stewart, 64, of Grand Island passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at the Grand Island Regional Medical Center surrounded by family and many friends. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 5th, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 22nd and Wheeler, with family and friends gathering following the service. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Richard was born January 21,1958, in Lincoln, NE, the son of Merle and Darlene “Dee” (Morse) Stewart. Rich graduated from GIHS, class of ’76 and received a degree in drafting from Central Community College in Hastings. He worked as a draftsman in several states throughout the Midwest. He also learned the trade of drywalling while working with his father and became an accomplished drywall finisher, working independently and as a subcontractor for Paul Davis, of Grand Island. In 2000 he returned home to take over the small self-storage business he and his dad had begun to build. At the time of his death, Rich was the proud owner and operator of Island Storage. He greatly enjoyed the many relationships he was able to establish there. Rich was an active and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was sealed for time and eternity to his wife, Candace on June 22, 2001. He was able to serve a two-year mission while serving the people of the California San Jose Mission and fulfilled many callings within the church. Rich is survived by his wife Candace of Grand Island; his sister, Debra (Chuck) Costello of Grand Island; two nieces, Meghan (Dan) Luebbert and Melissa (Tanner) Hannum of Omaha and great-nieces, Emma and Jadyn Luebbert; two great-nephews on the way and a brother-in-law, Jim Willey of Whitney, NE. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by parents-in-law, Donald and Marjory Willey; and two brothers-in-law, Mike Willey of Natchez and Donald Willey of Wichita. Memorials are suggested to the Morrison Cancer Center.
