Al L. Dillenback

Al Dillenback, 78, of Grand Island, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. A public visitation will be held on Thursday, April 10th from 5-7 pm, at All Faiths Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Friday, September 11th, at 10 am, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will follow that afternoon at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Livestreaming of the service can be found at Trinity United Methodist Church’s facebook page. Al was born September 11, 1947, to Art and Phyllis Dillenback in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended school in the Des Moines area, graduating from Southeast Warren Junior/Senior High School in 1965. During his high school career, Al was an avid wrestler and respected the sport. Following graduation, Al enlisted in the United States Army at the height of the Vietnam war. He was stationed in Germany where he received specialized training in electronics. He was honorably discharged in 1968. Al put his electronics training to good use, beginning a successful 43-year career with Diebold, Inc., where he repaired ATMs and banking equipment. Al had a natural ability to understand how things worked and the knack of figuring out how to fix them. There was no problem he couldn't solve and nothing he couldn't repair. His work was rewarding and he took great pride in what he did. Never one to sit idle, Al started his own business, Dillenback Enterprise, in 2012. Drawing on his many years of experience and his natural talent, he serviced small community banks, refurbishing vaults and lock boxes. He remained passionate about his work and continued doing what he loved. One of his greatest joys was passing his knowledge and skills on to his son, Sean. The two were not only father and son, but best friends. Al was a true conversationalist who could visit with just about anyone. He had a gift for making connections and enjoyed the simple pleasure of good conversation and laughter. He also had a soft spot for those less fortunate and a generous heart toward anyone who needed a helping hand. Al loved the outdoors and lived life with a sense of adventure. Over the years, he enjoyed snow skiing, golfing, camping, boating and water skiing, attending sporting events, and traveling on adventures with his beloved family. These experiences created many cherished memories that his family will treasure forever. Family was everything to Al. He was an ace in the kitchen and delighted his family with his delicious meals. He enjoyed his Thursday lunches with the guys, where good food, good friends, and plenty of laughter were always on the menu. Al also had a soft heart for animals. His dearly loved cat, Max, will surely miss his favorite lap to curl up on. Al is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years and best friend, Joan Dillenback, his dear son, Sean Dillenback, and his daughter, Krista Dillenback, who was the apple of his eye. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Dillenback, his sister Phyllis (Wayne) Kirby, sisters-in-law Carolyn Kerchal and Sonja Govier, and many nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Laura Salisbury and Sharon Evans, and brother Junior. Al was a tremendous blessing in the lives of all who knew him and will be sadly missed. We love you, Al. Until we meet again. Memorials may be given to the family for distribution to non-profit organizations.
