Arthur E. Ostermeier

Arthur E. Ostermeier passed away peacefully, January 9, 2026, at Country House Memory Care, Grand Island NE, with family by his side. Visitation will be Monday, January 19th from 5-7pm at All Faiths Funeral home. Funeral will be Tuesday, January 20th at 11am at First Presbyterian Church, Grand Island NE. Burial will be at the Grand Island City Cemetery. Art was born February 27,1935, to Ernest H. and Etta (Hanna) Ostermeier, at home on the farm north of Grand Island. He attended 7 West school, and Grand Island Senior High, graduating with the “Class of 53”. He joined his father in farming. He loved working the land. Art enlisted in the Army, and after the death of his mother, received the Hardship discharge as he was needed at home. Art married Dixie Helzer September 19, 1959, for 66 years of marriage. He grew up in the First Baptist church, where he served as Trustee. When marrying Dixie, he joined the First Presbyterian church, and served as Deacon, Ushered for many years, was Coffee Host, Door Greeter, and volunteered in many other ways. Art served on the School Boards for District 7 West School, and District 1-R school. In addition, he served on the 4H Council, Hall County Extension Board, Hall County ASCS County Committee, Prairie Creek Township Board, T Bone Club Board, and was a member of the Platt Duetsche. For many years, Art played baseball and then fast pitch softball at the Platt Duetsche. He enjoyed his bowling team, playing cards, and coffee with the “Class of 53”. He loved attending his kids and grandkids activities. Art and Dixie also loved going dancing. He is survived by his wife Dixie, children Teri (Jay) Nieveen of Adams NE, Brenda (Jim) Denne of Omaha NE, and Keith (Stacey) Ostermeier of Grand Island NE. Seven grandchildren: Timothy (Stacie) Nieveen, Jerod (Kate) Nieveen of Adams NE; Brandi (Ryan) Wenndt of Holopaw FL, and Cole (Kylee) Denne of Papillion NE; Brandon (Mandy) Scherer of Neola IA, Kelsey (Austin) Zigler of Omaha NE, and Ashley (Grant) Meyer of Grand Island NE. Eighteen great grandchildren: Kinley and Trey Nieveen; Harper Nieveen, with one on the way in April; Noah, Ryley, Owen, Carson, and Emmitt Wenndt; Tessa, Isaac, and Natalie Denne; Blake, Brock, and Ava Scherer; Kanon and Karter Zigler, and Palmer and Nora Meyer. Sister Joyce (Ralph) Langemeier of Garfield AR, Sisters-in-law Marilou Baldwin, and Kathleen McCrellius, Brothers-in-law Jay (Donna) Helzer, and Vernon Engel, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father in-law Louis and Bertha Helzer, brother and sisters in-law, David and Lorna Helzer, Marilyn and Danny Stout, Golda and Harold Bockbrader, Bob Baldwin, and Judy Engel.
