Bernard J. Konen

Bernard J. Konen, 89 of Grand Island died Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Grand Island Regional Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 AM Monday, May 24th at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Bishop Elect James Golka will officiate. Burial of ashes will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered by the United Veterans Honor Guard and the U.S. Army. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5-6 PM Sunday, May 23rd with a Vigil Service at 6 PM at All Faiths Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designations. Bernie was born on December 8, 1931 at Juniata, Nebraska the son of Bernard and Pauline (Hupf) Konen. He was raised on the family farm. Bernie served in the Nebraska National Guard, entering the U.S. Army in 1952. He served during the Korean War, being honorably discharged in 1954. He then attended Southeast Community College in Milford. He met his wife Margaret Reynaga when she was onstage singing "Blue Moon" at the Glovera Ballroom. He said he it was love at first sight! On January 7, 1956 he was united in marriage to Margaret. This union was blessed with children Bernie, Celine and Marlo. Bernie was employed by the Navel Ammunition Depot in Hastings and then became a television technician after graduating from Milford. He worked for Holtz TV in Grand Island for over 30 years. He was a member of the Catholic faith, being a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1963. His enjoyments included fishing, hunting, gardening and bowling. He loved being around people and telling them his stories. He had a wicked sense of humor. He was always strong, and sometimes a little stubborn, but he was always willing to help others out. He cherished his time with family especially his grandkids and great grandkids. He was very proud of all his family and their achievements. Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Bernie (Kim Randolph) Konen, Celine (Roy) Swan and Marlo Reyes all of Grand Island; grandchildren, Heather (Nate) Lewis, Nicole Konen, Joseph (Evelyn) Stahlnecker, Jordan (Katilyn Schomer) Stahlnecker, Casey (Amanda) Stahlnecker and Thalia (Eliezer Garza) Carillo; great grandchildren, Kinsey, Jaxon, Cyrus, Maddux, Mason, Bentley and Kairo, and a sister, Josephine Wood of Hastings. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, his siblings, Harold and Bill Konen, and Lorene Knebel, and his parents. We know that he is reunited with his love, Margaret and they are dancing together again.
