Berniece Dixon

Berniece L. Dixon, 99 of Grand Island died on Monday, April 4, 2016 at Golden Living -Park Place. Cremation was chosen and private family services will be held at a later date. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family Berniece was born on July 12, 1916 to Levi H. and Dora (Brokaw) Jensen near Creighton, NE. She is survived by her son, Gene (Carmella) Scarborough of Grand Island; grandchildren, Daniel Lee (Patty) Scarborough of Geneva, Mark (Kris) Scarborough of Lenexa, KS, and Lisa (Kevin) Harris of Grand Island; great grandsons, Andrew Scarborough, Timothy Scarborough, Brett Scarborough, Brian Scarborough, Wesley Harris and Wade Harris; along with numerous extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Roy, Lee and infant brother Harry; sisters, Dorothy, Lucile and Lottie; infant daughter, Connie deVee; and two husbands. At the age of 3 she moved with her family to Royal, NE. She grew up there, attending the school and graduated in 1935. In the fall of that year she came to Grand Island to attend the Grand Island Business College. On January 2, 1937 she married J. Raymond Scarborough. To this union two children were born. She was then united in marriage to Arthur Schroeder. They made their home in Grand Island until his passing in 1989. In September 1994 Berniece married W. Clay Dixon. They remained in Grand Island until his passing in 1999. Berniece was a lifelong member of the Methodist faith. She was first a member at Royal and then transferred to Grand Island, where she was a member at the time of her death. She was very active in the church circle as well as the Women’s Club, the Rebekah Lodge for over 50 years and the Circle of the Lodge. In her working years, she was employed by Robert Dairy for six years, in accounting, until the plant closed in Grand Island. For the next 20 years she was employed by Kriz-Davis Co. For a number of years after retirement she volunteered at both St. Francis Skilled Care and Lake View Nursing Home. Berniece was a gifted with a needle, making many beautiful embroidery pieces. She collected bears and was an avid reader. Memorials are suggested to the family.
