Darwin Lee Daily 68 of Grand Island went to his Heavenly Home on Thursday, April 23, 2026, surrounded by family at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha. Gathering of family and friends will be from 4-6 PM Wednesday, April 29th at St. Leo’s Catholic Church with a 6 PM Christian Wake Service. Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, April 30th at St. Leo’s Catholic Church. Mass is celebrated by Father Don Buhrman. Burial of Ashes will be at 2 PM in the Kearney Cemetery. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. Memorials are suggested to be offered to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Darwin was born on January 28, 1958, in Kearney, NE the son of Dallas and Barbara (Owen) Daily. He graduated from Kearney High School in 1977. Darwin built custom homes for 10 years working for Rockford Custom Builders. On April 25, 1981, he was united in marriage to Veronica ‘Vikki’ Homan. This union was blessed with two sons, Chace and Cobey. In 1987 Darwin answered a calling to public service and became a Nebraska State Patrolman, graduating from Camp 33 on December 11, 1987. He moved his family to Grand Island in December of that year. Throughout his 30-year career with the Nebraska State Patrol, Darwin became part of the Speed Team in 1991, was certified as an Accident Reconstructionist in 1994, and became a leader of Troop C as Sergeant based out of Hastings on December 17, 2001. He retired on November 1, 2017. Darwin enjoyed anything in the outdoors including hunting, fishing, camping, yardwork and gardening. As an Eagle Scout himself, he served as a leader in Troop 119 guiding both his boys as they each received their Eagle Scout rank as well. His belief that “conservation is the future” led him to serve as the Grand Island Chair for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, ensuring the wilderness he loved would be there for his children and grandchildren to explore. At the heart of Darwin’s world was his wife of 45 years, Vikki. He was a proud father and cherished every moment spent with his sons and their spouses, Chace (Andrea) Daily of Fargo, ND and Cobey (Amanda) Daily of Springdale, Arkansas. His grandchildren became the center of everything as he cherished every moment with all five, Colton, Pearl, Benton, Scarlett and Tatum. He is preceded by his parents.
