Diane L Hugh

Diane L. Hugh, 80, of Grand Island passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Grand Island Regional Hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in the Sanctuary. Visitation will be held an hour prior. Burial will follow at Grand Island City Cemetery. Pastor Jeff Pedersen will officiate. Memorials are suggested to the family. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Diane was born on October 10, 1940 at Grand Island, daughter of Basil and Maxine (Frye) Fritz. Diane was a long-time resident of Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School. At age 15 she met the love of her life, Dean Hugh. The couple were married on December 19, 1959. They made their home in Grand Island where they remained most of their lives. Diane’s caring and fun personality made her the perfect person to care for children at St. Francis Hospital Daycare for over 30 years. She loved watching the kids learn and grow as well as bring smiles to coworkers and parents. Diane volunteered often at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, she was there to smile and invite church goers to the service as a greeter, and lent her skills to help with communion and any assistance needed in the church office. She also enjoyed socializing at the Grand Generation Center and taught Tai Chi. Diane enjoyed classic cars and was a member of Island Area Cruisers Car Club. Diane enjoyed trips with her daughter, and any activity that included her grandchildren. She enjoyed camping and boating, as well as a glass of wine every now and again. Her bright and bubbly personality will be missed by friends and family. Diane is survived by her daughter, Michele (Scott) Ulmer; grandchildren, Brandon, Brady and Bailey Ulmer; brother, Brian (Deb) Fritz; sisters, Lynn Buckley (Ron Barry), and Terry (Dean) Poppe; Nieces and Nephews, Tyler Poppe and Mecala, Mick Poppe and McKenzie, Kimn (Strehle) Peterson and Greg, Rich Strehle and Donna, Lee Fritz and Maddie, Joel Fritz and Megan Fritz and Gwen Fritz; and numerous nieces and nephews on her husband Dean’s side of the family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Basil and Maxine (Frye) Fritz; husband Dean; son, Mark Hugh; brother-in-law, Tom Buckley and 8 sisters and brothers of her beloved husband, Dean.
