E. Louise Reed

Edna “Louise” Reed was born on May 29, 1949 at 11:50 pm, (Once a night owl, always a night owl), to Willis F and Grace N (Dye) Reed. She joined five older siblings, three brothers and two sisters. Louise went to District #58 and #59 for grade school. She then went on to attend Cairo Public High School. Her class was the last one to graduate as Cairo High. She joined R&L Shows of Chapman, operating concessions for the next 23 years. R&L Shows became D.C. Lynch when Louise Harvey passed away. At the end of the season in NE, Labor Day weekend, Louise joined some of the people at Heart of America Shows in Texas, playing different towns in Texas until Thanksgiving. Louise would then come back to NE and worked at Hobo Joe’s until it’s closing. She then went to Tommy’s Restaurant as a waitress until the carnival came back to start another season. Tommy would always hire her back every time she asked. Sometimes it was just washing dishes, but she was always working. Louise never had a problem getting a job, and even though it may not have always been what she wanted, she always did what was required. At 18, Louise married a man with six children, five girls and one boy (the baby). They moved after three years to Fayetteville, NC, and stayed there until Louise got a divorce and the children’s aunt wouldn’t let Louise have the kids. Louise came back to Grand Island. Later she met Roy Hunt, whom she married and moved to Houston, TX with, after two years. Ultimately, that marriage ended as well, and Louise made her way back to NE. Years later, she married David Carr, who had two daughters and a son. Louise met and fell in love with her soul mate, Ron Marshall on September 26, 2006. The couple happily lived next door to each other for 17 years until Ron passed away. Louise never had children of her own, but many that called her mom or mama. She also had numerous nieces and nephews that called her Auntie all their lives. They may not have been blood, but to her, they were family. Louise loved country music and enjoyed signing with Byron Lawrence and the Platte Valley Country Men. She often could be found singing karaoke as well. In her spare time, Louise enjoyed crocheting, and over time, she made 67 lap robes for people in the Soldiers and Sailors home. She also made blankets for friends and several newborn nieces and nephews. Those left to cherish her memory include her siblings, Pearl Mead of Wood River, Gene (Joann) Reed of Hastings, Betty Stephens of Fullerton, and Jerry (Mary) Reed of Greere Ferry, AR; special “daughter” Ann Graham, and 26 “nieces and nephews”, and numerous great nieces and nephews. Louise was greeted in Heaven by both her maternal and paternal grandparents; her parents; and siblings, Sam, Earl, Alice, and Harold.
