Jennie M. Casarez

Jennie M. Casarez, 92, of Grand Island passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024 at CHI-Health St. Francis Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at All Faiths Funeral Home. Rosary will begin at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Fr. Richard Piontkowski will officiate. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements, memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Jennie was born on December 25, 1931, daughter of Refugio and Joaquina (Marquez) Aldana in Omaha, NE. Around 1940 she moved with her family to Grand Island where she completed the 10th Grade. On September 7, 1954 she married Santos D. Casarez Sr. They made their home in Grand Island and welcomed four children into their family. Despite the loss of their infant daughter, Monica, together they worked hard to build a life full of love, family (immediate and extended), comfort and stability and in the process made memories that have lasted a lifetime. On October 17, 1982 her world was upended with the loss of her Husband and Son. With internal strength, Jennie pushed through hardships and always did whatever needed to be done, in the best way that she could. In her earlier years of adulthood, Jennie worked at Twin Rivers and Redman’s Manufacturing. She became a wonderful stay-at-home Mom in the 1970’s. She always kept her home tidy and clean with the BEST home cooked meals around that were enjoyed by many, family and friends alike. Jennie returned to the workforce during the mid to late 1980’s working as a Caseworker for the Department of Health and Human Services, giving great advice and assistance to many and sharing her knowledge of life with a kind heart. Later she worked as a Spanish Translator for both the Hall County Court and local Private Attorneys until her retirement. Jennie enjoyed watching action and martial arts movies, Husker Football, and Mexican novellas. She loved listening and dancing to Mexican music. Jennie was a fantastic cook- her pork chops and chili were known and loved by many. Family meant everything to her. Her most favorite times were when her family was gathered together and she could just sit back, watch and listen. She was a warm, caring, loving nurturer to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and to many of her nieces and nephews. Jennie’s quiet strength and love will be missed by her family. Her memory is cherished by her daughters, Diana (Carlos Sr.) Guerrero of Grand Island, Lori (Bryce) Knudsen of Seward, Daughter-in-law Keri (Eddie) Rossi of College Station, TX; grandchildren, Stephanie (Josh) Wooten of Wylie, TX, Melissa (AJ) Schuldt of Grand Island, Mikayla (Gil) Frank of Seward, Caleb Knudsen of Seward, Tommy Dodge of College Station, TX; great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Jordan Schuldt, JJ Wooten, Brylor, Cyrena and Kaynan Frank; sister-in-law, Gloria Martinez of Bartlett, IL; along with numerous loved nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Jennie was preceded in death by her parents, father & mother-in-law; husband, Santos Casarez Sr.; infant daughter, Monica Casarez; son, Santos Casarez Jr.; grandson, Carlos Guerrero Jr.; siblings and spouses, Henry (Lupe) Aldana, Joe (Carmen) Aldana, Mary (Frank) Rivera, Trina (Val) Torres, Carmen (Leland) Luebbe, Pedro, Carmel and Johnny Aldana; brother-in-law Gilbert (Chato) Martinez and friend Simon Ramirez.
