Juanita "Janet" Munoz

Juanita H. “Janet” Munoz, 92, of Grand Island died on Friday, April 1, 2016. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Father Richard Piontkowski will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Cathedral with a Rosary Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family. Juanita was born on May 16, 1923 in Oxford, Kansas to Gregorio and Bonifica (Martinez) Hernandez. She grew up and received her education in Oxford and Hershey, NE. On August 11, 1940, Juanita was united in marriage to Salvador S. Munoz. Following their marriage they lived in Paxton, Sutherland and North Platte, moving to Grand Island in 1994 to live at Chrysalis Lutheran Home. Juanita eventually made her home with her daughter, Rose. She was employed by TRW in Ogallala and worked in housekeeping for Sutherland Clinic and for Social Services. Juanita was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral and an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary. She loved flowers, was an excellent cook and had a warm welcome for anyone. A wonderful mother and grandmother, her family was her priority and many times they looked to her for spiritual guidance. Survivors include her children, Robert (Darla) Munoz, Rita (James) Martinez, Sally (Robert) Melgoza, Rose Ann Perez, all of Grand Island, David (Marlene) Munoz of Greeley, CO, Salvador (Rosalie) Munoz of Sutherland and Luci Sanchez of Council Bluffs, IA; brother, Lasaro (Rose) Hernandez of Cheyenne, WY; sisters, Ramona Mora of Grand Island, Victoria (Willie) Martinez of Sutherland and Angela (Mauro) Sanchez of Grand Island; Aunt Petra Negrete of Winfield, KS; 31 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Salvador; parents; brothers, Elias, Domingo, Demetrio, George, John and Panfilo; a sister, Jennie Gonzales; four grandchildren, Bobby Jr., Mitchell, Gabriel and Angelo; and a son-in-law, Benito Sanchez. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
