Linda J. (Fila) Thompson

Linda J. (Fila) Thompson, 62 of Grand Island unexpectedly passed away at her home on Sunday, January 22, 2017. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Fr. Tom Ryan will officiate. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Linda was born on September 30, 1954 in Grand Island, daughter of Leonard and Agnes “Aggie” (Vocelka) Fila. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Abby (Korey) Mason of Lincoln, and Jennifer Thompson of Grand Island; parents, Leonard and Aggie Fila of Grand Island; brother, Len (Pat) Fila of Omaha; sisters, Lori (Bret) Fila-Packard of Las Vegas, NV, and Lesli Fila (Jerome Thurnau) of Evans, CO; long time companion, Lyle VonKampen; beloved grandchildren, Jayden and Brianna Mason of Lincoln; her “boys,” her cats, Frankie Blue Eyes and IQ; along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncle, cousins and extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her Grandparents. Linda was a lifelong Grand Island resident. She graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1972 and continued her education graduating from Grand Island Beauty School. Soon after graduating from Beauty School Linda opened her own Beauty Shop, Linda’s. Wanting to share her many talents with others she was employed for many years as the Banquet Director at Riverside Inn. For the last 18 years Linda helped guide patients to a healthier lifestyle as Food Service Associate at CHI-Health St. Francis Medical Center. In September Linda retired but soon after her caring nature lead her to her next career journey, which was providing individual private care in client’s homes, which she was really starting to enjoy. Linda loved the simple joys in life; she spent many summer days camping with family and friends, she loved the time she spent with her family and grandchildren. She was a proudly known as Nana Jo to her grandchildren Jayden and Brianna. Linda loved her two furry companions or her boys as she affectionately called them. Linda was a friend to everyone and truly a caring soul. Linda felt strongly about helping and giving to numerous charities. In her honor, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the family to be distributed to all charities and organizations Linda supported.
