Loren. L Avey arrived on the scene in Broken Bow, Custer County, Nebraska, on December 16, 1940. Loren Avey gave up on the ghost on Friday, July 10, 2026. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Grand Island. Pastor Dean Hanson will officiate. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Memorials are suggested to DAV #40. Loren was the second son of Ralph E. Avery and Martha M. (Sanders) Avery. Loren began his education in Ansley, Nebraska in 1945 at the age of four (4). The family relocated to Alliance, Nebraska, in the spring of 1946 where Loren finished his first year of schooling. In the Spring of 1955, his family relocated to Ravenna, Nebraska where Loren finished his High School education in May of 1958. After only two (2) days upon graduation Loren entered the U.S. Army, in May of 1958. “Boot” camp was taken at Fort Carson, Colorado, then on Fort Gordon, Augusta, Gorgia and Military Police school in August of 1958. Then it was off to the far East and South Korea. On the first day of December 1959, Loren arrived back at Puget Sound, Washington on board the USNS ship, “James O’Hara” and the continental United States. Then it was back to Fort Carson, Colorado as ordered until Honorably Medical discharged in May of 1961. Loren married Constance K. Musil on May 28, 1960, in Ravenna, Nebraska. They had one daughter; Cynthia C., born on October 11, 1961. They were later, after Cynthia married Larry Bock in September of 1981, in Ravenna, Nebraska, presented with two (2) grandchildren, Leigh Ann and Wayne M. Bock. Later, after the two grandchildren became adults, they presented Loren and Connie with four (4) great grandchildren, Kinsey K Bock, Jordon P. Bock, Stella G. Miller, and Evie R. Miller. Loren was a Barber by trade, having gone to the Sioux City, Iowa Barber College from September of 1962 until April of 1963. Loren retired from Barbering in October of 2008, in Sidney, Nebraska after 45 years of Barbering and relocated from Sidney, Nebraska to Grand Island, Nebraska. Loren ran for the Sidney City Council twice, got elected both times and enjoyed some fishing and Genealogy. Most of Loren’s life was spent simply working and raising the family. Loren was so very proud to be a military veteran and to have so much love for this great nation. Loren was a life member of Chapter #40, the Disabled American Veterans, aka “DAV.” Loren served as the Adjutant for DAV Chapter #40 for 27 years. This would most likely be a state record for the DAV. Loren was equally as proud of his two Grandchildren as both are educators in the public school’s system and both have master’s degrees. Leigh Ann Miller is located in the Grand Island, Nebraska school system, and Wayne Bock is in the Brush, Colorado school system. Wayne also has coaching duties, both in basketball and track. Loren did pin a couple of history books; they were classified as “True Fiction” books with the first being a 600+ paged book, “Lynchings, Legends’, and Lawlessness.” The second book was a 300-paged book, The “Pole Creek Crossing.” Both books are about Nebraska’s History. Preceding Loren in death were both parents, an older brother, Pat A. Avey, and his youngest brother, Mickey J. Avey. Surviving siblings and one sister, Shelba Jean Newby of Cameron, Missouri, brothers Clifford R. Avey of Kearney, Nebraska, and Ronnie R. Avey, of Mandan, North Dakota. Also surviving Loren is his wife, Connie K. (Musil) Avey of 62 years, in Grand Island, Nebraska and their daughter Cindy C. Bock of Ravenna, Nebraska.
