Reverend Martin R. Cloeter

Reverend Martin R. Cloeter, 89, of Grand Island formerly of Chaska, Minnesota found peace with his Lord and Savior Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Tiffany Square Center. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island. Services will be at 11:30 am Saturday, February 13th. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Chaska, Minnesota. Reverend Greg Snow will officiate. Burial will be in the Maple Lawn Cemetery at Faribault, Minnesota. Reverend Cloeter was born October 9, 1926 at Ormsby, Minnesota the son of the Reverend Richard and Martha (George) Cloeter. Survivors include his wife of 68 years Dorothy “Dottie”; their children, Rachel (Reverend Terry) Brandenburg of Grand Island, Reverend Daniel (Marji) Cloeter of Osceola, NE and Reverend David (Lisa) Cloeter of Broken Arrow, OK; grandchildren, Jennifer (Brad) Kreikemeier, Bethany Brandenburg, Amy (Scott) Cloeter Schmidt, Allison Cloeter, Paul Cloeter, Annaliese (Alex) Ward, Becca (Pablo) Barajas, Tim (Anna) Cloeter, Sarah Cloeter, Hannah Cloeter and Marysa Cloeter; great-grandchildren, Kylie, Katie, and Colton Kloster, Gabriel Schmidt, Bennett, Clare and Drew Cloeter, and Isabella Brandenburg; brothers, Waldo (Betty) Cloeter of Santa Clarita, CA and Hubert (Diane) Cloeter of Faribault, MN; sisters, Lorna Vogt of Roseville, MN and Vicky (Donald) Langewisch of Bloomington, MN; sisters-in-law, Elsie Cloeter of Roseville, MN, Judy Cloeter of Washington Township, MI and brother-in-law, Reverend Dr. Bernard (Evelyn) Raabe of Mesa, AZ. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rev. Dr. Ottomar Cloeter; sister, Paula (Rudy) Jonke; brother, Edwin Cloeter, and sister-in-law, Mildred Cloeter and brother-in-law Reverend Myron Vogt. Rev. Cloeter received his education at Akron, CO Elementary, St. Peter’s Lutheran Elementary, Waterville, MN, Waterville, MN High School, Concordia University, Seward, NE, Mankato State University, Mankato, MN, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Concordia Theological Seminary, Springfield, IL. Rev. Cloeter served as principal of St. John's Lutheran School, Cleveland, Ohio; St. Paul's Lutheran School, Fairmont, MN; Emanuel Lutheran School, Tipton, IN; Northwest Lutheran School, Milwaukee, WI; Concordia High School, Seward, NE, and Minneapolis, Lutheran High School, Minneapolis, MN. He served as Associate Professor of Concordia Teachers College, Seward, NE. In 1976 he was called to serve as Senior Pastor at St. John's Lutheran Church and School, Chaska, MN. Following his retirement he continued to serve as Visitation Pastor at St. John's and finally as Chaplain at Good Samaritan Village, Grand Island, NE. Pastor Cloeter was active in the Minnesota South District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod as Representative of the Lutheran Church-/Extension Fund and as Circuit Counselor for pastors surrounding the Chaska, MN area for many years. Pastor Cloeter was especially close to his family of origin, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his many friends. His desire was to leave a legacy of faith in Jesus to family and to all who knew him, that all would receive the gift of eternal life through Jesus our Savior. For enjoyment, Pastor Cloeter played cards and Bridge, enjoyed fishing, spending time with family and friends, and watching various sporting events. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be earmarked for "Reaching the Unreached---India", director Rev. Dan Cloeter, or Mission Central, Mapleton, IA, director Mr. Gary Theis.
