Sheryl Ann Hanssen

Sheryl Ann Hanssen, 54, of Plattsmouth, NE, passed away at her home on Friday September 29, 2017 surrounded by family and friends. Service and celebration of Sheryl’s life will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 5th at All Faiths Funeral Home. Reverend James Jost will officiate. Burial will be at Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Born March 6, 1963 in Grand Island, she was the daughter of Lowell and Rojean (Robinson) Rogers. Sheryl attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1981. She attended Kearney State College, earning her Bachelors of Nursing Degree in 1986. She then moved to Minnesota and worked in a nursing home. Sheryl was engaged to Mark Hanssen and upon completion of Chiropractic College the couple returned to Grand Island where they were married September 19, 1987. They then moved to Kearney and she was employed at Good Samaritan Hospital. After a year they moved to LaVista to establish a Chiropractic Clinic and she began working at Methodist Hospital. She continued working for ten years until the birth of their first son, Michael, in 1996. Their second son, Christopher, was born in 1998. During this time Sheryl was a stay at home mom, and also worked part time at the family Chiropractic clinic. She pursued many interests relating to her children, such as, PTO president, organizing school functions, and supporting other families and children. Once her boys were out of high school, she completed the process of regaining her nursing license, and returned to the ICU working for the University Medical Center. She was an active member of her church, Life Spring, volunteering many hours in the day to day operations including bookkeeping and assisting administratively. She leaves behind her husband, Mark Hanssen and sons, Michael and Christopher of Plattsmouth; her mother and stepfather, Rojean and Bryce Feldman of Grand Island; brother, Martin Rogers of Boulder, CO and sister, Amy Jansson of Grand Island; stepbrother, Brad (Alicia) Feldman; stepsisters, Jody (Kevin) Hinds, Megan (Randy) Marks, Jacqui Richter and Amy (Brad) Parker; uncles, Richard Robinson and Randall Robinson; aunt, Rita Peterson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Bonnie Hanssen of Doniphan; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gaylord and Dee Hanssen of Grand Island; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Lowell Rogers; paternal grandparents, Clarence and Edna Rogers; maternal grandparents, Raymond and Rose Robinson; aunt, Elaine Robinson and uncle and aunt, Ronnie and Doris Robinson. Memorial donations will be used to establish a Nursing Scholarship in Sheryl’s name.
