William "Mark" Nance

William “Mark” Nance, 66, of Alda passed away on Friday, July 3, 2026, at St. Francis in Grand Island surrounded by his family. Mark passed quickly from a short battle of cancer. Celebration of life services will be held at: Alda Community Center on Friday, July 24th from 4:00-7:00 pm Memorials are suggested to his wife and daughters. Mark was born on June 15, 1960, in Flatwoods, KY, to William and Florence (Marsee) Nance. Mark and his family relocated to Bennett, CO where he received his education. After High School, Mark enlisted in the Navy and shortly after, found himself living in New Jersey. Mark then married Joyce and welcomed their first daughter, Melony. Mark and his family moved to Ord, NE to manage the bowling alley that was owned by his parents. Mark also owned his own business, Quality Roofing. Mark and Joyce then welcomed their second daughter, Monica. A few years later, Mark remarried to Linda and welcomed their daughter, Rebecca. Mark then relocated to Grand Island, where he met Janice Lueders. With Janice also came her two sons, Zack and Jeremy. Mark and Janice (Jan) were united in marriage on May 19, 2001. They made Grand Island their home for several years and eventually moved to an acreage in Alda. Mark started his own home repair business, Honey Do’er Home Improvements. Mark built his business through hard work and dedication to quality workmanship. When he wasn’t handling home remodels, Mark enjoyed gardening, grilling, listening to classic rock and country music, loved dancing and working in his shop. His recent project was restoring his ’65 Thunderbird. Mark was a man of many talents. He had a huge heart for his family and friends and was always ready to help anywhere he may have been needed. Mark was known for his contagious laugh, always sending a card for any celebration and would grill the best steak. Mark adored his dogs and grand dogs (Emma & Cannon). Mark was a ‘Girl Dad’ and would best be described as a ‘Simple Man’. Mark was a loving father, husband, uncle, grandfather, and friend. Mark is survived by his wife, Jan of Alda; daughters, Melony Merrill and Becca (Wes) Goldsmith of Grand Island and Monica Nance of Camden, NJ; stepsons, Jeremy (Dawn) of Lincoln and Zack (Tracy) of Grand Island; grandchildren, Gabi, Kaiden, Kristina, Aubree, Liana, Addie, Joey, Kollins, and Stratton; mother, Florence Goodsell of Platte City, MO; many friends and extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, William Nance; stepfather, Richard Goodsell; brothers, Tony and Gary; and sister, Lisa Hibl.
